Ambassador Graham Paul has invited two innovative material designers –Marlene Huissoud (FR) and Valdis Steinarsdóttir (IS) to his residence and is hosting an afternoon of design centred conversations.
Get a chance to hear the designers talk about various topics over a game of question cards that have been specially designed to power and spark the discussion. Then continue the conversation over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in this unusual setting.
Marlene Huissoud (FR) is an experimental designer who works with discarded silkworm cocoons and black propolis to create artefacts with patterns replicating those found in the world of nature. Valdis Steinarsdóttir (IS) of @10 (ex Studio Trippin), has been turning Icelandic horse hides into colourful everyday objects and recently designed biodegradable meat packaging from the skin of the animal itself.

Valdís Steinarsdóttir is an Icelandic designer that focuses on material experiments and finding unique solutions to social and environmental issues.
She puts importance on an open approach to the design process and to the end result. It could be a product, clothing or even a performance, as long as it fits into the universe of the world she creates with her design. Through her projects she wants to have an open discussion with an audience, getting to the bottom of why we as a society think certain things are beautiful, interesting, ugly or offensive.
Valdís was nominated for the Icelandic presidential innovation awards in 2018 and won the first price in the prototype category at Forum Design de Paris.
Valdís is the creative director and founder of the design studio @10.
