Dialogue is a transformative presentation of an evolving project; a dialogue between
Icelandic clay, algae and textile where the medium and its properties guide the
process. It will be up to the individual what the final result was, is or will be.
Dialogue began as a brainstorming session between two cities; a conversation
between two designers who both have flirted with each other’s profession. Our aim is
to shift the focus onto the design process and the journey around creation. We use
our technical backgrounds and mix them up to get a new perspective. The material
drives the process and we allow it to find its final shape and form.
The unexpected intrigues us and therefore we chose to work with the organic
materials, Icelandic clay and algae. Sustainability, transformation and the impact of
the environment are key ideas of the project along with the material itself which
eventually will create its own path.
The exhibition sheds light on the current status of our research while focusing on the
creative process and the journey of each material.
We believe that objects tell a story and together we share an interest in the origin of
things; where, how and why it was created in relation to its purpose. The context of
things is one of our subjects and how objects interact. One’s perception and
interpretation is always tied to one’s experiences and in our study we try to answer
the question: Why do we see what we see? With this in mind we propose a dialogue
between materials, guests and us. It will be up to the individual what the final result
was, is or will be.
