As we emerge from behind tiny terminals in darkened rooms, of what Vilhelm Flusser might refer to as a triennium in a universal orchestra of chamber musicians engaged in the circulation and consumption of digital imagery across a global network, we only discover the smooth space we abstracted the world into turned out to be striated all along.
Local artist and designers native to new media present us with views into this world and confronts us with realities and futures like were they realities.
Digitality is as deserving as other materials of critical inquiry. It turns out it doesn’t exist in a void. It has material beginnings in its nascent rise from Peruvian lithium mines before bouncing around between our thumbs, like a pebble skipping on water, craving our attention until it falls out of favour and sinks to its inevitable planned demise in the landfill of Lagos Nigeria where bio-robots sift through its remain for salvageable precious metals.
Local digital artists and designers open windows to this world and force us to stare into the abyss of our present to see if we can find the contours of our common future. Curator is Nils Wiberg.
